Reynoldsburg was named after John C. Reynolds, who was a business owner and had the post office inside his store. He provided goods to those that first built the main road going into Columbus. People of the area all knew who he was and eventually voted to make the town name after him.
In 1870 a man by the name of Alexander W. Livingston discovered that he could grow a commercial based tomato plant that would eventually take off. This was quite an accomplishment for the times and since, Reynoldsburg has been known to be the birthplace of the tomato. The town takes great pride in this and has a celebration every September in Civic Park.
There are many nearby attractions to Reynoldsburg and with it only being 9 miles from Columbus there are many things to do as well. Reynoldsburg has the Livingston House, which was the home of Alexander W. Livingston. He was an inventor of the commercial tomato that the city is so very proud of. This home has had many owners that would see court more than one time to determine who the rightful owner was. It was originally built by Nathan Orcutt who was a cabinetmaker and not a home builder. This made the home better built than most as he had an eye for detail.
There are many parks in the area. The Sharon Woods Metro Park, for example, has an 11 acre lake on it. It is approx. 760 acres and has many different types of trees on it to hike through. There are also small pools throughout that are perfect for wildlife watching. There are groomed trails that allow guests to enjoy the outdoors in a very scenic fashion, in fact, you will probably forget that you are actually near a city . This is a lovely place to come to relax. It also has Spring Hollow Lodge which is a lodge that you can rent by the day. It holds approx. 60 people and has a full kitchen and wifi.
Reynoldsburg Truro house is another attraction worth mentioning. It is the home to the historical society that takes the time to dive deep to fully understand the rich history of this area. This area was settled back in the 1800s when there wasn't much documentation like there is today. We know that Mr. Reynolds was one of the founding members and a little more about the history. However, the historical society works to learn more. It is believed that this town was a main hub of the underground railroad. This, of course, was done when to help free slaves back in the day.
