Tomas Worthington was a senator and a governor at some point and they wanted to honor him by calling this settlement after him. The settlers arrived in 1803 and the first post office was built in 1805. In 1893 the street railway connected Worthington to Columbus , this is when it became a suburb to Columbus. The largest growth time period was post war in the 1950s. By the time the 1970s had hit, the city blew up seven times its size. Infrastructure and homes were built rapidly to keep up with the pace.
